The General Dynamics SATCOM Technologies (GDST) Model 7134
Antenna Control System is a microprocessor-based system
incorporating digital technology for accurate antenna positioning
with high reliability, maximum flexibility, and a straightforward
and practical user interface. This control system is ideally
suited for small to medium aperture antenna applications requiring
capabilities for automatic multiple satellite access, program
track, remote control via an RS-232 or RS-422 communications link,
and optionally automatic step track operation and memory track.
The standard product provides 2-speed axis control for AZ and EL
with a high/low speed ratio of up to 15:1. This is accomplished by
application of user-settable high and low-speed control signals to
variable speed AC drives, which in turn control standard 3-phase
induction motors. For 3-axis systems, circuitry is provided for
the control of an AC synchronous stepping polarization motor. The
AZ and EL motor controllers employ integral electronic protection.
The drive cabinet includes NEMA-rated circuit protection devices
for each motor/motor controller, which are sized appropriately for
each application.

Description:
Auto Acquisition Sequence On power up, the user will be
prompted to either auto acquire or stow the antenna. When the user
selects Acquire, the ACU (antenna control unit) will deploy the
antenna and perform a series of moves to determine the tilt of the
platform. After the antenna is deployed, the ACU will position the
antenna at the elevation angle required to align the antenna with
the Signpost satellite, see Step #1 above. The signpost satellite
is specified via the ACU’s Signpost Data Entry screen.

Algorithm The RC3500 tracking algorithm can be divided into three
distinct stages - STEP TRACK, MEMORY TRACK, and SEARCH. In STEP TRACK, the controller periodically peaks the receiver's AGC
signal strength by jogging the antenna. The time and position are
recorded in a track table maintained in the controller’s
non-volatile memory. The interval between peakups is determined by
antenna beam width (determined from antenna size and frequency
band), satellite inclination and a user specified maximum
allowable error (in dB). When a track table entry exists for the
current sidereal time, STEP_TRACK switches to MEMORY_TRACK.A low
threshold of 43dBHz, fast re-acquisition of less than 1s and high
linearity, manufactured by Novella Satcoms Ltd.’s receivers the
preferred choice for small antenna field deployable stations (C,X
, Ku and Ka Band) requiring fast automatic satellite acquisition.
